Welcome to Nicolas' home

«Sage, a good medicine, takes its root in the beauty of
mathematics and the power of the Python.»
For quite some time I have been wanting to design a Sage logo based on
a Sage plant growing out of a Pi-shaped caduceus with two Pythons
turning around it; however, I don't have the artistic skills to make
it myself. So when I went to Bobo-Dioulasso in Burkina Faso last Fall,
I was lucky enough to find again Kader Dermé, a bronze artist I had
met twenty years ago. He crafted this bronze sculpture for me using
lost-wax casting, adding art and an African touch to the design.

The artist Kader Dermé, with a small-scale wax prototype.
If you ever go to Bobo-Dioulasso go see him! It's such a great
experience to believe, for a minute, that you have fingers, and craft,
and artistic skills to realize your dreams. Note that I am to be
blamed for the Sage plant not to look more like Sage: Sage does not
grow in Burkina, and I did not bring a picture!
In the next prototype, I would like the two snake heads to be more to
the sides so as not to hide the Sage plant. However I don't know when
I'll have the occasion to go again to Bobo. If anyone with some
artistic skills wants to team up with me, I'd be happy to discuss this
further to either make a drawing or a 3D model.
